About ACM Jobs

Arts Culture Media Jobs (ACM Jobs) was set up in 2004 to advertise jobs in the creative sectors, and was closed in May 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It advertised jobs for employers, and was not a recruiter. Job seekers registered on the website and would receive targeted and personalised 'job alerts' with jobs fitting their criteria.

Among its more than 3000 previous and current employers were nearly all of the UK's major arts and cultural organisations, including Glyndebourne Opera, Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, Audience Agency, Sadler's Wells, ABRSM, British Council, National Theatre, National Portrait Gallery, Nottingham Playhouse, Science Museum Group, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra,Trinity Laban, Arts Council, Royal Armouries, Birmingham Rep etc.

The domain names on sale are artsculturemediajobs.com, artsculturemediajobs.co.uk, acmjobs.com, acmjobs.co.uk, acmjobs.uk and operajobs.co.uk.

The website was self-designed and built in PHP with MySQL database, and was very fast running. However, it might need some updating. The principal value is in the domain names, the goodwill built up with the employers and job seekers, university career offices etc. over many years of doing business.

How was the business monetised?

The job advertisements were chargeable. Through the bespoke online platform the employers could register, upload up to 6 logos and post jobs. These were then checked and made live by the administration.

The price per job advertisement was £49, with an annual subscription offering unlimited postings for £300.

It was always run as a part-time operation, alongside the founderrs' other roles.

Why are we selling this business?

We never had the time to devote to promoting the website and calling/emailing employers that we felt the site needed. As the founders had other full-time positions, ACM Jobs was run in addition to these positions, which became more demanding over the years. With the drop in employment during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the consequent demands of the founders' other jobs, the decision was taken to sell the business.

Who would this business be perfect for?

This business would be perfect for someone who likes flexible working, as it can be run from anywhere with a wifi connection. The financials quoted are from the last tax return, and were achieved on just a maximum 1-2 hours per day. Therefore, with more time input the potential is much greater.
